Gas prices are climbing. The prices for new and used cars are insane right now. And if that’s not bad enough, many auto insurance companies are raising prices too. You can’t do anything to change those factors, but there are ways you can save money on transportation. Here’s a quick list of ways to save on gas, vehicles, and auto insurance.

Big List of Ways to Save on Transportation

  1. Compare prices for auto insurance once a year.
  2. Check if your auto insurance company offers a discount for tracking your driving through an app.
  3. Check if your auto insurance company offers a discount for paying in full.
  4. Use the app getupside to earn cashback on your gas purchases. (Join HERE)
  5. Use an app like gas buddy to find the cheapest gas.
  6. Space out your car washes.  If you wash your car once a week, try going every ten days.  If you go once a month, try to stretch it to 45 days.
  7. Skip the car wash and wash your car at home.
  8. Be sure your tires are properly inflated for the best fuel efficiency.
  9. Avoid sudden starts and stops and drive the speed limit for the best fuel efficiency.
  10. Learn to change your own oil.
  11. Get rid of extra weight.  The heavier the vehicle, the more gas you’ll use.
  12. Refinance your auto loan.
  13. Don’t ignore maintenance problems.  Fixing an issue before you need a tow truck will save you lots of money!
  14. Raise the deductible on your auto insurance which can save you money on your premium.
  15. Drive a different car.  Consider trading in your current car for something that will cost less in fuel and maintenance.  If you have multiple vehicles, be sure to take the most fuel-efficient vehicle on longer trips.
  16. Walk or bike when possible.
  17. Carpool when possible.
  18. If you need a drink or snack while on a car trip, stop at a grocery store instead of a gas station.  You can usually buy a 12-pack of drinks in a grocery store for the same price as one drink in a gas station.  The same is true for food!
  19. Group errands and appointments to limit trips to town. Less trips = less gas used.
  20. If you have multiple stops to make, make a list of the most efficient driving order.
  21. Bike or walk whenever possible.
  22. Carpool when possible.
  23. Use your most fuel-efficient vehicle for longer trips.
  24. Drive with windows up for better gas mileage.
